Heating

Tables

The heating tables list pipe sizes, insulation and installation. Insulation thickness follows the steps of the German building energy act, and bracket spacing follows the outside diameter. Fire-stopping sizes sit beside them as reference values, not as a separate calculation.

How it's calculated

The heating tables are reference values, not a second pipe calculation. Insulation thickness follows the steps of the German building energy act from the bore: up to 22 mm it is 20 mm, up to 35 mm it is 30 mm, up to 100 mm about the bore, and above that 100 mm. Half insulation is half of that. Bracket spacing steps with the outside diameter and is shorter for plastic. Fire-stopping sizes sit beside them as product values.

Worked example

Steel pipe with a 27.2 mm bore, which is DN 25: insulation 30 mm, half 15 mm on the energy-act steps.

FAQ

Is the insulation the old energy ordinance or the current act?
The steps match the annex of the German building energy act for heat distribution. They do not replace the building compliance calculation.
Does the table apply to domestic water?
This insulation table is kept with the heating pipes. Domestic hot water has its own insulation requirements.
Why is bracket spacing shorter for composite pipe?
Plastic expands more and supports less. The spacing is therefore shorter than for metal.
Does this list sizes up to DN 300?
The steel series does, to EN 10255 up to DN 100 and EN 10220 after that. Copper, stainless steel and composite stay at their existing sizes.
