The radiator calculator estimates rated output and installed length. Output is corrected with the characteristic curve in line with DIN EN 442. Flow, return and room temperature give the factor against the standard point.

How it's calculated

Radiator output is converted from the standard point to the actual temperatures. The standard point is 75/65/20 °C. The logarithmic excess temperature is taken as a ratio of the standard excess and raised to the exponent n, in line with DIN EN 442. The watts per metre are guide values at a height of 600 mm, not a manufacturer's curve. Length is rounded up to the next 100 mm step.

Worked example

Type 22, 600 mm, 55/45/20 °C, n = 1.3: factor 0.51. 1,200 W needs 1.27 m. One metre delivers 945 W.

FAQ

Is this the output from a data sheet?
No. The watts per metre are guide values. An order should use the manufacturer's curve at the same excess temperature.
Which exponent is the default?
1.3 suits many panel radiators. Column and towel radiators can differ.
Why is the rated output not enough in a new building?
At 55/45 °C the excess temperature is smaller than at 75/65 °C. The same length delivers less heat, and the factor is below one.
Are the valve and the connection type included?
No. There is no reduction for the installation, a cover or the hydraulic balance.
